Grey Man Concept - Invisible in Plain Sight
« on: December 07, 2017, 12:35:36 AM »

Sit on a crowded square bench. Pay attention to the people passing by. Try to notice particular details that draw your attention towards that person. Did you notice that lousy scarf? Did you see that dude's pink pants? What about that old man's beard? Until when you least expect, someone will pass by that you barely notice. Nothing draws your attention to this person. He does not stand out. He passes through you, walking, right across your eyes yet almost invisible.

This sort of urban camouflage is not that difficult to pull off. The Grey Man concept is about going by undetected, not drawing attention to yourself.

We all filter stimuli by disregarding what is not immediately important. Our brain does that through the RAS, the Reticular Activating System. It is that part of our brain that notices things that stand out. The Grey Man is the guy that avoids triggering people's RAS.

This is a godd read about it:

That's one of the best concepts related to privacy and security in my opinion: gray man, or invisibility. Do not draw attention to yourself. Go undetected. That's the only way to take care of your business with a smaller chance of being a target of someone. Animals uses that successfully, both the pray and the predator.

If you draw attention to yourself, there will be more people watching you. This means they are getting information about you (what you're doing, where you're going, etc). You don't want that, coz you know information is power. The same way you don't want people seeing everything you do online, you also don't want people to notice everything you do on the streets. It's just not their business.
